STEF Switzerland Ltd. opens a new warehouse by using a responsive staffing strategy.
STEF Schweiz AG needed a responsive staffing strategy to open a new location in Kölliken. Their need for a new warehouse was driven by strong fluctuations in demand for their frozen products. Opening this location proved to be a challenge due to the unique, cold working environment (cold storage). It was also important for STEF to have access to the same regional, flexible workers. This allows fast reactions in case of last minute increases in demand. It also keeps onbaording costs for new workers low.
When STEF approached Coople, their key challenges were:
- Strong fluctuations in order volume
- Unusual working conditions (cold environment)
- Their need for regional workers
How did Coople’s responsive staffing solution help?
We have been supporting STEF Switzerland Ltd. since September 2019 with flexible warehouse staff. Responsive staffing enables them to react to the strong fluctuations in demand for fozen products. STEF’s team also relied on flexible staff from Coople for their expansion at the Kölliken site, from where the central warehouses of supermarkets and wholesalers throughout Switzerland are supplied. By building up a pool of favourites with flexible workers from the region, it was possible to make staff planning more reactive and agile, which played a major role for the success of the expansion.
Result: Flexible staffing enables STAF to be responsive to demand
- Flexible stability: 4 flexible employees are working 5 days a week
- Quality: Building up a pool of favourites with 20 flexible employees who have already proven themselves
- Regionality: All flexible employees could be recruited from the surrounding area
What our client said about us:
With Coople, we have reliable staff available at short notice, who we can hire ourselves. We are very satisfied with the quality of the staff and with the entire support of Coople who always take our concerns very seriously.
Lina Cordova Nyffenegger
HR Assistant, STEF Switzerland Ltd.
Switzerland’s largest online wine store saw a significant increase in demand after the outbreak of COVID-19. Within a very short period of time, the company was able to build up a pool of qualified flexible staff to rely on as needed at their logistics centre in Dietlikon.
Challenges in building a pool of flexible staff
Flaschenpost Services AG needed a large pool of flexible staff at once to guarantee a smooth service and the ability to process incoming orders on time. The qualified workers needed to be available on call for an extended period of time.
In summary, the challenges were:
- An extremely short lead time for most shifts
- Their need for 20 workers per day over a longer period of time
- A preference for working with the same flexible workers as much as possible
How did Coople help?
To find the required number of qualified, flexible staff, Coople supported Flaschenpost by building a pool of favorites. The best performing workers who proved themselves during the first assignment for Flaschenpost were continuously highlighted and included in the pool of favorites. After only a few days, Flaschenpost already had a group of 25 flexible workers, whom they could rely on at any time for short-notice assignments. This set up also provides a good experience for Cooplers (our flexible workers), as they can repeatedly work in the same team with other Cooplers, which creates a sense of community.
Solution: How to build a pool of flexible staff on the Coople platform
With over 300’000 registered professionals, the Coople platform offers our clients the opportunity to access to a large pool of flexible staff at any time. With the Coople platform, the team of an online pharmacy, had direct access to high-quality flexible staffing around the clock.
Challenge: Arranging flexible staffing fast
Just after the COVID-19 outbreak, online medicine orders skyrocketed. As a result, one of the biggest online pharmacies in Switzerland struggled to deliver orders to their customers and had to arrange flexible staffing quickly. However, their traditional staffing agency couldn’t deliver on the high increase of staff required at such short notice.
- Delivery of a large number of normal orders after an unprecedented increase due to the COVID 19 outbreak
- Recruitment of 10 additional employees per day within 12 hours
- Change of internal processes to switch to a digital solution
- Maintain flexibility in order to be able to adjust staffing requirements again after the COVID crisis
How did Coople help with flexible staffing?
With Coople, the largest digital flexible staffing platform in Europe, the pharmacy was able to advertise jobs that were immediately seen by thousands of motivated and qualified workers. They were able to hire the right people within a few hours, because Coople’s algorithm quickly matched and notified the most qualified and skilled flexible staff.
The pharmacy found a solution by stepping away from a traditional agency and embracing the Coople platform, which is available online and via an app. By making the change, the company could tap into a large pool of flexible staff at any given time. This is what the process looked like:
- Job creation: The online pharmacy used the simple job creator in the app to create and post a job in minutes. They set the wage, role and experience they required.
- Discovery process:The job is automatically matched by the Coople algorithm with available, qaulified employees. The employees can apply and appear in the employer’s list of applicants. The employement is completed with just one click.
- Confirm hours:After the job is completed, the employee enters the hours worked and submits it to the online pharmacy for approval. The platform then takes over and completes all administrative work, including payroll.
- Fully vetted workers: Over a hundred qualified candidates applied for the job within a few hours
- Fast delivery: 10 workers were ready to start within 12 hours
- Time saved: Recruiting was quick and easy, flexible and scalable
What our Coopler said about the collaboration:
Coople is always there to support us. I find it motivating that I can choose the jobs that I actually want to do.

How Bardhyl Coli manages peaks in demand
At 29, Bardhyl Coli became the youngest hotelier in Switzerland, looking after the wellbeing of the Waldhotel Davos’ high-profile guests during normal times as well as during peaks in demand from prestigious events such as the annual World Economic Forum. Flash forward five years, he is now General Manager of the 5-star Arosa Kulm Hotel & Alpin Spa as well as the Gubelhof Suites in Zug and its adjoining coffeeshop, Kaffee Frech. Here’s how one of the country’s most successful hoteliers keeps it all under control with the help of Coople.
A day in the life of the general manager of a 5-star luxury hotel is dynamic, and, often times, unpredictable. Between management meetings, running hotel operations, and making sure the guests are satisfied, Bardhyl has a full plate of responsibilities and challenges to tackle on a daily basis.
One particular challenge Arosa Kulm faces is the lack of access to qualified staff. Simply put: due to its exclusive location in the mountains, it’s not always easy to find workers, especially for peaks in demand such as a wedding banquet. Many remote resorts like Arosa Kulm face similar obstacles when they need to cover for sick staff members on short notice.
Bardhyl first experienced this situation during his time as manager of the Waldhotel in Davos five years ago. That was when he found Coople—then known as Staff Finder—as a solution for his staffing needs. Today, Bardyl continues to work with Coople to facilitate the search for temporary staff and regularly hires Cooplers at Arosa Kulm. With access to over 250,000 registered workers, Bardhyl says that he is impressed with the speed at which he can find temporary staff through the platform.
One of his favorite things about Coople is the app and how it has enabled him to easily manage his staffing needs on the go. Because Bardhyl travels frequently between the Grisons in eastern Switzerland and Zug, the possibility to review job postings and approve hours from the Coople mobile app is extremely handy. And because Coople handles administrative tasks like payroll and insurance, Bardhyl and his team spend less time on paperwork and can focus on other important priorities.
“Finding flexible workers is fast and painless with Coople.”
With the help of Coople, Bardhyl has managed to keep his hotel’s variable costs under control while still maintaining the level of service and quality – even during peaks in demand – that his guests have come to expect from a prestigious name such as Arosa Kulm.
