We’re proud to celebrate the five year work anniversary of our Cooplers! Join us as we speak to our long-term Cooplers of five years to learn more about their flexible work experience with Coople.

Introducing Ben

Ben joined Coople in 2017, working across a variety of job profiles in hospitality. After picking up a few shifts as a bartender and a waiter, Ben quickly gained a reputation for his friendly, professional attitude and became a favourite worker for over 50 hiring companies. Ben now works flexibly with Coople whilst pursuing his passion for music and photography.

Why did you join Coople?

“I hadn’t worked a day in my life before I joined Coople. I left school and was performing and doing modelling and arts, but it got to the point where I needed some sort of consistent income as I didn’t have money coming in at the time. My friend recommended me to look into agency work. We did a Google search and Coople was one of the first things that came up, so I applied to give it a go. Shortly after, I was accepted and I took it as a sign to pursue it further.”

What experiences have you gained since working with Coople?

“Learning how to communicate effectively. Since joining Coople, I’ve worked with a lot of different people at very high end events, pubs, universities. I’ve also gained new skills working in different environments and roles. Its been quite crazy! I’ve also gained a massive amount of respect for all types of hospitality staff – working in hospitality makes you see things in a different way.”

What career goals are you working towards?

“I want to work on my music and photography. I’m working on releasing music this year and working on various photography projects. I just bought a new camera so I’m saving up for lenses to shoot for events.”

Now that you’ve celebrated your five year work anniversary, what professional plans do you have for the next five years?

“I don’t plan that far in advance anymore due to COVID, but my general plan in life is to just make great music and create good content. I work with Coople to fund my music and photography goals, so I’m looking forward to making that happen.”

What advice would you give to new flexible workers?

“I always suggest applying as much as possible and emailing people to let them know that you want to work. It’s also important to make sure your account has been verified for certain jobs. I don’t think a lot of people know you have to get your experience verified before you can be accepted for certain jobs.

I would also suggest to be open minded to doing jobs you haven’t applied for. That happens a lot, sometimes you have to swallow your pride and do something that the client tells you to do that you haven’t applied for. Worst comes to worst, if you don’t like it, you don’t go back. That’s the good thing about Coople, because you’re in control. It’s also important to humble yourself so you can build your ratings. I’ve seen a lot of people, especially younger staff, who come in with attitude and they don’t realise that it’s a dog eat dog world and you will not get re-booked if you come in with a chip on your shoulder.”

What’s your favourite thing about working flexibly with Coople?

“I like that we get paid weekly. It gives a sense of stability. I’ve been asked to work for others but I don’t want to give up my freedom and better pay. Personally, I think hospitality agencies are the best thing you can offer someone who wants freedom and doesn’t know what they want to do with their life yet. It means you don’t need to stick to a specific workload and you can do as much as you want.”

What’s your favourite work memory with Coople?

“Every single week is different working with Coople, so it’s hard to give a specific insight. Since lockdown has lifted, I’ve enjoyed working flexibly even more than usual. The jobs are better, the pay is better and everyone I speak to while on shift is excited about doing shifts because they’re getting paid what they think they’re worth. The high pay really speaks for itself – Coople values their employees.”
