When and why did you join Coople?

“I joined Coople in September 2020, initially starting as a Customer Success Agent. I had never heard of flexible work before and the concept was quite appealing, especially during the height of COVID-19. As a result, I was eager to explore this opportunity and I decided to join the team as a Coopler. During this time, I was also using the app to book hospitality shifts to work as and when I wanted. This was amazing for me in terms of the flexibility it gave for balancing my work life and personal life.”

How did you transition to a full-time position from there?

“I initially applied to a management role for one of the hiring companies on the marketplace. After securing the position, I was told that the role was unfortunately no longer available due to a change in fulfilment requirements. However, when one door closes, another one opens. I was given an opportunity to temporarily join the Operations team of Coople instead by my wonderful line manager, Jess. Although I didn’t have a background in recruitment, I was curious and up for the challenge, so I accepted.

After joining the team in September 2021, a professional development opportunity came up to join Coople as a permanent employee. I was then promoted into a dual role position, working as a Delivery Manager and Product Support Specialist.”

What goals are you working towards?

“I’m currently in the process of completing a PhD research study, looking at the social injustices towards men in society regarding child visitation when marriages break down. This is a passion project of mine with the aim to influence societal change towards existing family law frameworks.

In a professional capacity, I am currently completing Lean Six Sigma and Prince 2 accredited qualifications in addition to other professional qualifications that could benefit my future career aspirations.

In my personal life, I am working towards learning an additional language. I love exploring new cultures and meeting new people as it makes me feel more connected to the world.”

What professional development plans do you have for the future?

“I want to expand my product knowledge. I’m also aiming to combine my background in customer experience and newly gained product knowledge to be part of a team that revolutionises the flexible working market. “

What professional development advice would you give to new flexible workers?

“Make sure that your CV is updated with relevant experience for the jobs you apply for, and that your profile is fully complete. If you find yourself applying for roles but not being selected, it’s most likely down to those two points. After you address that, the more you apply, the more opportunities you’ll find to pick and choose from. When you complete your shifts, the employer will give you star ratings on the app for your work and vice versa. This gives you the opportunity to continually improve your performance in your next shift.

In my experience, Coople really is the best digital staffing agency. How you choose to use the app can completely change your career direction. Explore your opportunities, be open-minded and approach every job with a willingness to deliver a lasting impression. Whether it’s bartending, waiting or even a temporary office position, do your best. In doing so, you can open many doors.”

“I know from my own experience that hospitality shifts can be tiring or overwhelming at times. However, if you stick to your morals and have a strong work ethic, you’ll gain recognition for your commitment. In my case, this approach has led to a promotion and permanent position opportunity in the space of 6 months.”
