Introducing Mary P., our Coopler of five years

Mary joined Coople in 2017, working as a bartender and waitress. After completing a few shifts, Mary quickly built a strong reputation with her 4 star rating, with many hiring companies praising her skills in mixology, silver service and drinks service. As a result of her skills and work ethic, Mary is now a favourite worker of 23 hiring companies.

Why did you join Coople?

“I joined Coople because I wanted more flexibility and control over my work. I wanted to decide my own schedule, so that’s why I joined Coople.”

What was your very first Coople job? How did flexible work support your goal at the time?

“My first job was with Gorilla Events as a bartender. I was working in hotels before that and when I moved to London I didn’t want a full time job, so I joined Coople as a way of gaining experience. I was able to work with a lot of well-respected companies, which helped me develop my skills and learn from the best in the industry. It also helped that I was getting paid weekly, which was a massive perk.”

What experiences have you gained since working with Coople?

“Working in so many different venues has allowed me to gain insights and best practises from a variety of places. The flexibility has also been a great bonus because you can choose when you work and it’s not forced onto you. You’re in complete control.”

What career goals are you working towards?

“I don’t have any big career goals at this time. I’m happy working flexibly – I’m a Coopler of five years now, which I think speaks for itself to show just how much I enjoy it! I’ve been offered full-time roles, but I enjoy the flexibility to travel and take time off when I want. I definitely want to keep working flexibly in the future.”

What’s your favourite thing about working flexibly?

“Meeting new people. I’ve gained a lot of friendships with people during the years I’ve worked with Coople, which has been really great. I think Coople is one of the best agencies out there. Other agencies aren’t as reliable in my experience, and the people at Coople are all wonderful.”

As a long-term Coopler, what advice would you give to newly registered flex workers?

“I’ve found that a lot of new people who register are students, or people looking for flexibility. I’d say don’t be shy and ask lots of questions, especially if you’re working with people with more experience. They can give you valuable information to guide you and help you along the way.”
