Jacqueline K. decided to return to work after a career break of almost 20 years. Her story is a powerful illustration of the challenges and rewards of re-entering the workforce, especially for mothers who have spent a long time caring for their families. With support from Coople, Jacqueline has taken a first step, but her journey is not over.

Almost a 20-years-break, but the desire for independence remains

Before taking a career break, Jacqueline worked full-time as an executive assistant. When she had her children, she made the deliberate choice to step back. “I wanted to be there for my children”, she explains. Yet, the desire to return to work never really left her. “I worked part-time from home for a while and hoped to secure a permanent position. But when my husband and I realized that my entire salary would be consumed by daycare costs, I decided to care for my children myself and put my career plans on hold”.

After nearly 20 years and over 300 job applications, Jacqueline is facing the challenges of the job market. “To be honest, I don’t think I’ll get a permanent position. Most employers prefer younger candidates or expect a complete CV. ” Still, Jacqueline doesn’t let this discourage her.

A flexible bridge back in the workforce

The turning point came when an acquaintance introduced Jacqueline to Coople. “The possibility of working flexibly and tailoring my shifts to my availability immediately appealed to me”, she says. She particularly enjoys her work at the catering stands in the ZSC arena. ” I have a wonderful supervisor who makes me feel valued. That means a great deal to me.”

Working with Coople allows Jacqueline to regain her financial independence, a goal she has cherished for many years. At the same time, she enjoys exploring different roles, such as in the hospitality sector.

Challenges and aspirations for the future

Jacqueline’s story highlights the challenges women face when returning to the job market after extended breaks. She finds it particularly discouraging that many mothers feel “voiceless. ” She hopes more companies will focus on supporting this group, making their transition back to work smoother. “We need genuine opportunities and greater visibility”, she says. Her message is clear: there are countless motivated individuals ready to work but held back by the lack of supportive frameworks.

From her experience, Jacqueline knows how important it is for companies to value their employees and take the time for thorough onboarding. These factors make all the difference and enhance the motivation and commitment of temporary workers.

Jacqueline continues to see her future with Coople but does not rule out a permanent position. “I appreciate the flexibility and variety, but my goal remains to work regularly and at least 50 percent. Then it would be a proper re-entry for me.”

Facilitating the Return to Work Together

Jacqueline’s story shows that getting back into the job market can be challenging, but it is possible. Platforms like Coople serve as a valuable bridge, enabling individuals to rebuild their careers, gain fresh experiences, and transition back into the workforce. Yet, there remains room for progress. Companies should see temporary workers not merely as a flexible solution, but as an opportunity to discover untapped talent and foster their growth for the future.

Jacqueline is confident: “With more support, we can achieve a lot.” Her story is a truthful look at reality and an inspiration for those facing similar challenges.
